Pushing back against the Russia Narrative.

A while ago I saw this disgusting piece of filth.  Let’s look at some of the wonderful wording:

"Our decision to have two ships simultaneously operate in the Black Sea is proactive, not reactive," US Navy Vice Adm. Christopher Grady

Oh goody.  We are being, “proactive.” We aren’t being aggressive, just proactive.

"Russia is also not particularly transparent in what they do, which obviously requires us to then be able to monitor them by other means, and reconnaissance is one of those means," one defense official said.

We are just… you know curious.  It’s really their fault when you think about it.

An armed Russian Su-27 jet performed an unsafe intercept of a US Navy EP-3 surveillance plane

Nothing could possibly go wrong with a little, “surveillance,” after all.

Here’s how the article ends:

Officials say that given the heightened tensions and increased military activity in the region it is important to increase the frequency of US activity in the area and desensitize Russia to the presence of US military forces there, helping to establish rules for how the two countries should safely operate in proximity to each other, as they did in the Cold War.
"In the Cold War we had a dance we did and everybody knew their roles in the dance: You fly your bomber here, I'll fly my bomber there. You put a ship here, I'll put a ship there," another US defense official in Europe told CNN.
"I don't think we've got to that level yet, and so we're still trying to figure out what that dance looks like in the year 2018 versus what it was back in the Cold War, and I think there are some growing pains, obviously," the official added.

Remember how great everything was back in the Cold War everyone?  Wasn’t that just a blast?  We gotta get back to those good old days!  Back then everyone was, “operating safely.” We weren’t on the brink of destroying the world, we were just dancing.  Who doesn’t love dancing?  It’s gonna take some growing pains but don’t worry, we’ll get there, just follow the advice of your friendly neighborhood US defense official.

Okay, snark off.  I’ve seen Rachel Maddow use words like weapon and warfare.  I’ve seen people on CNN compare Russia’s interference in our election to Pearl Harbor.  Every time I come to this site I see something that sets off alarm bells. Here’s a diary about how are government and our military belong to Putin.  For comedic effect I’ll follow that with a link to a diary about neo-McCarthyism.  Oh look over here, it’s a new cold war with a nuclear arms race.  These diaries are everywhere and common place.  No one even thinks twice about talking in terms treason, attacks on democracy, or warfare on american soil.

Increasingly extreme rhetoric, demonizing an, “enemy,” nation, ramping up military funding, placing our forces on their boarder.  It’s like I’m watching Noam Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent play out right here in front of me and it’s working like a charm.

At this point some people have probably decided that I’m not their favorite person so let me clear up what I’m not asking for.  I’m not asking for an end to Mueller’s investigation.  I have no qualms with impeaching or imprisoning Trump and his whole campaign.  I don’t have a problem with sanctioning individuals.  I do think we should take steps to secure 2018 and future elections.  In all those places we agree.

I guess what I’m asking is just, dial it down a little.  Don’t play the sensationalism game.  Be careful how you use words like weapon, attack, or war.  Yes, it feels good to get worked up.  To have someone to be mad at for the situation we are in, but it’s dangerous.  It’s dangerous and the Russian People likely bear us no animosity.  Whatever Russia may have done, it was the work of a dictator longing for his Cold War glory days.  Talk in terms of defense, not offense.  How do we protect our elections, not how do we punish Russia.  When you do talk about punishment, talk about sanctions and prison sentences, not troop movements or counter attacks.  Most of all, push back against any talk of nuclear power.  Don’t fool yourself into thinking we could stop a strike.  It would be mutually assured destruction all over again.  Only this time we would be relying on the diplomacy and sound judgement of Donald Trump.
